For the first time in a long time, Apple refreshed the iPad mini lineup earlier this year. The 5th-gen model hasn’t seen too much like its larger counterparts since then in the way of discounts. You can pick up the top-spec model at Amazon right now, however, with a rare $40 discount that marks its lowest price ever there. The 256 GB of Wi-Fi + Cellular is down to $639, compared to $679 in silver. Also discounted is the entry-level model, but only about $15.
The iPad mini was unveiled in March and maintains the familiar 7.9-inch form factor of its predecessor in 2015, but enjoys a big performance boost from the A12 Bionic processor–3 times the processing speed and 9 times quicker graphics as mentioned by Apple. The screen is 25% brighter and supports True Tone and P3 wide color. The mini line also gained support for Apple Pencil for the first time (or, if you want to save a little more, you could go to the cheaper Logitech Crayon. With cellular connectivity, you’ll also be able to get online without wanting to stay within Wi-Fi coverage.
